The build

Finishing touches to the utility space

We are still making the finishing touches to our guest storage areas, the utility room and spare guest bathroom, and fitting out the garage and Seren Loft apartment. We received planning consent for signage and this is being installed this month.

Our lodges are open for business

The bookings for the two lodges Tir & Afon went live on 3rd Oct 2025 and we have been amazed at the incredibly positive start. We thank everyone who has chosen to book their stay with us, and provide such wonderful feedback

Getting there

The garage building is complete and the long awaited large round windows arrive at last. The wood store is built and we start furnishing the lodges. All plumbing and electrical connections are ready, and the glass balustrades are installed.

We have a stayed a few nights  in the lodges to test things out, as have some friends do the same – feedback was invaluable. We busied ourselves with getting all the administration in place: insurance, Wifi, choosing Canopy & Stars as our booking agent, getting our website built, setting up our digital key entry systems etc…

We tidied the site and got on top of the weeds in our new garden areas, and then – we were ready!!

End of summer milestones: bathrooms done, decks built, and hot tubs arrive

The lodge bathrooms are complete, and the decks are finished with new ramps built. A new firepit area is created in front of Tir and bench seating around the site is provided using local Douglas Fir that was felled by storm Darragh. The cork walls are installed in the lodges (which we absolutely love), the floors are laid, the eco stoves are installed and the wardrobes are in place. The most exciting arrival at the end of August was the hot tubs!!

Gravel garden complete and lodge kitchens & bathrooms underway

Our new gravel garden is formed, as part of our natural eco drainage solution, the lodges are clad with local douglas fir, and kitchens and bathrooms start to be installed. The bases for the decks are formed, and our new wall to our house is complete. Cladding starts to be installed on the garage building.

Sedum roofs, solar power, and a flourishing new landscape take root

The green sedum roofs are installed, as well as solar panels and EV chargers. We started planting in earnest (with much help from friends and family) with hundreds of plants, a beech hedge, an avenue of fruit trees (for guests to enjoy), and many more native and ornamental trees. The garage roof is finally tiled!

Progress. Progress. Progress.

The windows are fitted in the lodges are installed, the garage walls are built and the roof trusses are installed. Roof felting on the garage building is complete, and sheeps wool insulation in installed in the lodges. The new guest car park is formed.

The lodges have walls!

The walls and roof of the lodges are installed and the lodges are made waterproof

Garage floors are floated

The floor of the new garage building is floated

Construction kicks off

The framework for the lodges starts to be built by  Cartrefi Ffosaron Homes and the new access road starts to be formed.

Demolition begins!!

Removing an old garage, wood store and brick shed to make way for a new entrance and new buildings. The amazing crew from Ceiros Davies Ground Workers worked solidly to build new foundations, recycle materials from demolition and get ready for new water, electrical and drainage solutions.

The build begins

PJ and Andy, from Just Stop Digging  arrived to install our ground screws. These formed our lodge foundations and meant that we didn’t  need to disturb any tree roots to achieve our build.

Planning permission: Granted!

After 2 years of designing our dream and applying for planning, we finally have the green light. Let the build begin!
