Our story

Hello! We’re Jools and Tim, and this is our story.

We moved to Cardigan in 2022 seeking a different pace of life. We wanted to put our roots in a place where we could enjoy nature, have a more sustainable life, and be part of a thriving community. We had dreamed of building a special holiday offer, and Fronteifi was everything we had hoped for and more.

Wales

Tim is a very proud Welsh man and Jools has Welsh ancestry. We both love the beauty of our Welsh landscape, the strong local Welsh culture, and the incredibly warm Welsh local community. We also enjoy the creativity and individuality of Cardigan and the strong local care and focus on nature and a sustainable future.

Retire-not

After a long and successful career as an Architect, Tim was up for a change of pace. He threw himself into making our Fronteifi dream come true, from original concept, design and planning through to the build. He continues his professional registration but now spends more time outdoors than he does on the drawing board.

Our dream

Everything starts with a dream, and many dreams flitter aways as quickly as they arrived. But our dream stuck and our post-COVID world seemed like the right time to turn our dream into a reality. So we made it happen. Tim officially retired as an architect, Jools changed jobs, we moved house and we started sketching our ideas onto paper.

Creating the experience

Inspired by the ever-changing tides, the shifting light of sunrise and sunset over the river, the surrounding wildlife, and the star-filled skies, we sketched, reworked, designed, and redesigned until we were confident we could craft the perfect experience for our guests. Every decision we made was shaped by the three defining aspects of our Fronteifi life:

• The land (Tir)
• The river (Afon)
• The stars (Seren)

Our three principles guide all we do:

Environmental impact

We care passionately about our environment and have reduced the carbon footprint of our build and operation as much as possible. We recycled building materials on-site, installed a range of energy saving measures including innovative ground screw foundations, sheep’s wool insulation, heat pumps, solar, eco-stoves, electric car charging and edible planting.

Getting here and away

We’re less than a mile from Cardigan Town just off the A484.
